Renting a car or van

Many of the locations we list here are accessible by car or bike, but sometimes it's worth it to get some kids together and split a car or van for a day.

At Island Auto Rentals the cost of a 2- to 5-passenger car for one day (24 hours) is $24.95 (plus tax) and $12.95 for insurance. The cost of a 7 or 8 passenger mini-van for one day (24hours) is $49.95 (plus tax) and $14.95 for insurance. These are discounted prices for Ocean Island guests.

Drivers must be at least 21 years and have a valid drivers license (from anywhere) and a credit card.
They allow you 150km free during the 24 hour rental period. Each additional kilometer is $0.12 cents for the car and $0.15 cents for the van.

Some notes about buses

If you have a bike, you can take it on the bus and save tons of time. Give BC Transit a call at 382-6161 and ask them about how to get somewhere using bikes and buses. It's fast!

Since there's been a lot of changes to the regional transit system lately, it's a good idea to call them up and go over a route with them before doing it.
