Parking
Not having to worry about parking in the city is a major bonus. And when you're staying with us, you can chill out knowing that your ride is safe from the city's parking enforcement officers, in our parking lot!

The cost for a spot in our parking lot is $6 per day, and it's only available to Ocean Island guests. Ask the front desk staff about a parking spot when you arrive. There is no way to reserve a parking spot in advance. If we don't have any space for you, we can recommend other spots to park around the city, to save you from getting ticketed.

There are many places to park in Victoria. The decision lies on how much you’re willing to pay or how far you are willing to walk to the hostel! Here are some suggestions:
Street Parking:
Parking is free at a street parking meter from 6pm until 9am Mondays through Saturdays. Meter parking is free all day on Sundays and holidays. Otherwise you will need to feed it 25 cents for every 10 minutes. Watch out though--the meter maid is watching!
An option for those who don’t want to carry coins is to buy a pre-paid refillable parking card. You simply swipe your card when you park at a 90 minute parking meter. If you depart early, just wipe again to stop the time and pay for only the minutes used to the nearest 25 cent increment. Available at the Public Service Counter at the City Hall. Cost $30 ($25 worth of parking plus $5 for the card). Card info: 361-0260
Nearest Car Parks:
1. Central Baptist Church underground security-patrolled parking lot, a half block up Pandora Avenue. Open between 6am - 6:30pm (Closes at 7:30pm Sundays) at which point it gets LOCKED. Mon. - Fri. $1 for the 1st 2 hrs, then $1/hour after that; maximum $7/day. Saturdays and holidays, each 6hrs is $1.
2. Royal Bank parking lot at the end of the block past the hostel. $5.50 early bird special all day if you arrive before 9am and leave by 6pm. Otherwise $1.25/hr, evening maximum of $4 from 6pm - 6am.
3. Johnson Street Parkade on the 700 block of Johnson.
City of Victoria parkades charge 25 cents per half-hour from 8am - 6pm Monday to Saturday. Some shops will give you a ‘First Hour Free’ coupon if you ask, which will give you 50 cents off your total parking cost. Private parkades tend to have higher rates. Monthly parking is also available at various prices.
FREE Parking:
There are some 1-2 hour free parking on the outskirts of the downtown core. Check out the area near Chinatown north of Fisgard Street and west of Government Street or east of Quadra Street south of Fort Street. Also at Beacon Hill Park.
There are a few places near town you can park free all-day although these are usually a bit of a walk away. Check out Tyee Road--across the Johnson Street bridge and turn right at the first major intersection; or east of Cook Street, or you could take your chance at the residential areas nearby near Cook Street Village or behind the Memorial Arena (at Blanshard and Caledonia).

And as always, do not leave any valuables in your car!! But you knew that already, right?
Parking in Victoria
Parking tickets in Victoria cost $15 if you pay them right away. The city's parking spots along the streets are monitored from 9am to 6pm monday to saturday. So street parking is free after six in the evening, and all day on Sunday. All the parkades are also free on Sunday.
Auto theft
Actual vehicles don't get stolen much in Victoria, but more and more people are having stuff stolen out of their cars. We recommend that you don't leave anything valuable or important in your vehicle! Store it in our secure storage facility (for free) instead. If you have to leave something in your car, put it in the trunk before you get in your car in the first place, and park the car in a well-lit spot on a busy street.
